Cool Treats to Enjoy This Summer

During the summer, we can have really hot days in Maryland.  Stay cool and hydrated with fun treats. Kids will love making these fun recipes and snacks with you.

For Breakfast
The mornings can start out humid, so try a Mango Smoothie or Banana Berry Smoothie for a cool wake-up. Add frozen blueberries to your cereal for variety.

Ice-cold treats
As the day gets warmer, cool off with a popsicle made with watermelon or yogurt after hiking or swimming. Or try frozen grapes or orange wedges for quick treat. Parfaits and cool melon slushies are great for picnics.

Quench your thirst
Stay hydrated throughout the day with fizzy and fruity water or a spritzer. Kids should also try to make water their drink of choice. Or try a new take on peanut butter and jelly with the PBJ Energy Smoothie.

Take a break
Take some time for yourself. Enjoy pineapple orange frozen yogurt and walnut hummus dip with apples.

At the dinner table
Cold soups like cantaloupe soup and watermelon gazpacho can be served with dinner. Add a salad like Spinach, Strawberry, and Cantaloupe for a healthy side.

Kids in the kitchen
  • When you want to stay inside, try these kid-friendly recipe ideas:
  • You can make ice cream at home without a machine! Ice cream in a bag is a fun activity when friends are over.
  • Make banana pops together. Put a popsicle stick in a banana, cover with greek yogurt (any flavor), and freeze.
  • Kids like kabobs and there are many combinations of fruit and veggies to put on a skewer.
