Tomatoes Are Here!

We are related to eggplants, chilies, and potatoes.  We come in many shapes and range in color from green to red and even yellow!  What am I?  A tomato!!

It is finally that time of year.  Tomatoes are in season!  This means that tomatoes are being picked in Maryland, so they are going to taste wonderful1  They will also be easy and cheap to get at your local grocery store or farmers' market.

Tomatoes are great because they are full of nutrients and there are so many ways to eat them.  Check out the list below for some ideas:

  • Add sliced tomatoes to grilled cheese
  • Chop tomatoes and onions, mix with black beans and corn to make salsa
  • Top a salad with sliced, chopped or even cherry tomatoes
Make sure you store tomatoes on your countertop and out of the sunlight.  They will taste best once they are bright red and slightly soft.
