Staying physically active this Fall

Fall is finally here, and soon cooler weather and the holiday season are on the way. It is important to stay active during these fall months, even though it can be hard sometimes with the shorter days, and busy schedules. Here are some simple ways to stay active with your family during this fall season.

Outdoor fun in the fall: there are plenty of great family activities for you and your family during the fall.
  • Go for walks and to see the leaves change colors. You can do this in your neighborhood or at a free local park or trail. It’s a great workout but with pretty scenery
  • Farm activities. Many local farms have fall events where you can go apple picking, search through a pumpkin patch for the perfect jack-o-lantern, or walk through a corn maze
  • Sign up for a local fun-run/walk with the family. Many local communities will have family friendly races around Halloween and Thanksgiving. Going for weekly family walks or jogs is a great way to train for the race!

Stay active indoors: So it may be too cold, dark, or raining outside. There are still ways to stay active inside any time of day.
  • Cook a meal together. Get your kids involved and have a job for everyone to do. This will keep you on your feet and moving around for a couple hours. Check out some great recipes here.
  • Stay active with a family game night. There are plenty of great indoor games that can keep you active. Try a scavenger hunt and make it fall or holiday themed. Games like charades or musical chairs are easy to learn and get the whole family involved
  • Have the kids help with chores around the house. You can even start making up your own games to keep the family active! If you have fall decorations, have your kids help set them up. This keeps them active and still helps you around the house!

Make the most of this fall season. Being active during the year is a great way to keep you and your family healthy. Staying active will help build healthy habits for the future.
