Springtime Physical Activities

Spring is a great time to start adding more physical activity to your days. To stay healthy and to help lower your risk of diseases, adults should aim for at least 30 minutes a day, while children should aim for 60 minutes.

Not sure where to start? Think local! There are many free, exciting indoor and outdoor options that are fun for the whole family right around your neighborhood.

On days where the weather is nice, try soaking in Maryland’s famous scenery. Getting enough fun in the sun is great for your health and boosts your vitamin D supply.
·       Visit a nearby park or hiking trail
·       Plant your own fruits and veggies
·       Take the family to the local farmer’s market
·       Jump through the sprinkler in your backyard

Find ways to stay cool when it’s hot outside.  Check for specials or free events going on in your area now and  during the summer.  These are great places to take your child:
·       Museums or art galleries
·       Indoor exhibits at the Zoo
·       Trade fairs
·       Window shopping at the mall

Prefer to stay at home? Try indoor games such as:
·       Hide-n-seek
·       Tag
·       Hop scotch
·       Dance Party

You’re sure to break a sweat, so it’s important to stay hydrated. Pack a reusable water bottle and drink up every chance you get. Whether it’s from the tap at home or from the public water fountain, free water refills are just around the corner!
