Kick Off Spring at Your Local Farmers' Market

Farmers' markets are a great way to help support local communities. A farmers market
usually consists of a group of farmers and vendors who come together to sell local foods.
Products consist of fruits, vegetables, meats, breads, and baked goods!
Why should you
go to a farmers market instead of just driving up the street to the grocery store? Farmers' markets
have many great qualities and here are some reasons why you should get out to your local farmers
market today!

The Produce
Farmers markets have a variety of vendors that offer many delicious fruits and vegetables.
They have fresh produce that was grown locally and doesn’t have to travel a long distance.
Sometimes the produce is even picked the same day!
Supporting Local Business
Any product purchased at a farmers market whether its fruit, meat, vegetables, etc., are
directly supporting the small businesses in your area. By supporting the family farmers, you
are helping to support local families.
The Community
Farmers markets are a great place to take your family on a weekend. Your child can learn
about fruits and vegetables and get to know the farmers. You can get physical activity by
walking to and from the market. You can even learn about fruits and veggies with a farmers' market
scavenger hunt.

Protect the Environment
Food that you buy from the grocery store has usually traveled a long distance before reaching
your hands. The shipping of these products is usually done by plane for many miles which is
harmful to the environment. At farmers markets, farmers travel small distances by truck. By
supporting farmers markets, you are supporting a shorter travel time to reduce the impact on earth.
Now that the weather is getting warmer and spring is here, farmers markets are opening!
