Adding Oatmeal in Recipes

Finding a nutritious, delicious, and low-cost food can sometimes be a challenge. One of our favorite foods that fits all of these categories is oats!! Oats are an excellent source of protein, fiber, whole grains, and iron:

Protein
Protein helps your body build muscles big and strong! It also helps with hair and nail strength. You’ll find 6 grams of protein in 1 cup of oatmeal. Add a big scoop of peanut butter and you’ll double the protein content!

Whole Grains and Fiber
Fiber keeps your body moving! It helps you feel fuller longer and can decrease your risk for heart disease. Whole grains also provide your body with vitamin B for energy!

Iron
Iron keeps your blood healthy and oatmeal is a great source. Getting enough iron will help you keep your energy up and your blood flowing!

Oats are a low-cost food and can be used in many different meals. Sometimes oats are thought of only as a breakfast food, but they can be added to many recipes like smoothies, muffins, pancakes and more! Oats can help stretch meals to last longer by adding nutrients and fiber. For example, if you are baking bread, adding in oats will help increase the fiber content. Or, make your own granola by toasting oats in the oven with cinnamon. You could even add oats into meatloaf or burgers! Below we are sharing some awesome healthy recipes to make the most out of nutritious oats.
