Be Active in Your PTA

It’s summer time but it’s never too early to begin to think about the new school year. Plan to be part of the Parent Teacher Association/Organization (PTA/PTO) when your child goes back to school. This group is made up of parents, teachers and staff that work to get parents involved in many activities throughout the school year.

Joining the PTA/PTO may require a small fee for joining. There are many benefits for being part of this group. Parents help to fundraise to support many programs and supplies that a school needs to help children learn and grow. These groups are also a way for parents to have a voice for positive changes that they want to see in their school and meet other parents with the same goals.

Throughout the school year, the PTA/PTO raises money and provides positive programs to the school. By joining the PTA/PTO you can be a part of the planning of the many activities that take place throughout the school year. Some ways that you can be involved include:

  • Encouraging healthy parties and celebrations during the school year.
  • Sharing fundraising ideas that do not include selling candy or other unhealthy food items.
  • Providing ways to reward students without food or candy. Students can be rewarded in a variety of ways. Encourage the school to adopt non-food reward policies and look for other ways to motivate students to do well.

Be active in your PTO/PTA this coming school year! Your child will thank you!!!
